The SE merchandising and branding department recently proposed an idea for a new company mascot, which would be useful in a number of ways in the commercial sector. The mascot needed to be appealing to all ages, fun, and friendly. The team also wanted to base their mascot on an ancient deity from Earths past, evocative of both magic and power.
During their search the team came across a short lived but famously popular deity called Paul, the Psychic Octopus, which was worshiped world wide by fans of the quasi sporting-religion known as 'football', one of the major religions on old Earth around one thousand years ago.
Paul was said to be able to see the future and predict the results of complex games played by the various denominations of the religion against one another. Although Paul was a much loved deity at the time and seemed to form some central role in the football religion, he was eventually abandoned and finally forgotten by a progressively forward thinking and mature population.
For the branding team, Paul ticked all the boxes. With a quick touch up and some clever maneuvering of the letters S and E, Paul, the Space Octopus was born.
Paul the Space Octopus lives in the vacuum of the void. Like the company he represents, Paul has many arms capable of a variety of tasks, but all controlled by one very clever brain. He is a friend to those that need his help; he is always looking for the next opportunity. Keep a look out for him while you're flying about and give him a wave!
He might even o7 you back!
